I have a few questions for you. 

Did you know that you can Like and Follow fellow Facebook business pages as your business? 

Did you know that every time you engage with a post on Facebook, the algorithm shares that post with more people? 

Did you also know that every time you engage with a post on Facebook, it makes the poster feel good? 

Now I don’t want to get into the psychology of why we do or do not engage with social media posts, but I do want to focus on why we should be supporting our favourite businesses by engaging with their posts online. 

As a small business owner and relationship marketer, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of social media engagement. It’s a free, easy, and impactful way to show the algorithms that this business is putting out worthwhile content that deserves wider reach.

1.It’s actually great for YOUR business.

As I mentioned before, you can interact with a Facebook post from your business page. This creates a connection between your business and another, and it also increases your online presence. Here’s a link on how to do it

2. Actively engaging with posts boost organic (unpaid) reach.

Facebook loves conversation and interaction between its members. Every time you engage with a post, the Facebook algorithm gives the post a boost – and the poster’s confidence a boost along with it!

3. Create connections.

We have been so isolated from each other for the past year. Most of us are craving more human connection, and when we can’t see each other in person it’s nice to be able to interact online.

How to Engage With Social Media Content as a Business Owner

So, what does engaging really look like? Here are three easy steps you can take as a business owner to be a good partner and show some love.

1. Follow or subscribe

First things first, follow your favourite businesses on every social platform you have a business account (and bonus points if you also follow on your personal accounts!). We’re talking  Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn , YouTube, Pinterest, or any other platforms you use.

2. Engage

Dropping a ‘like’ on a post as you scroll by is an instant mood-booster for the person on the other end of the account, but take it a step further and leave a comment, or click through on the link. This helps show the algorithm that this is good content, and pushes it out to more users. 

This also applies to watching videos, and tuning in to live-streams. If you have the time, watch the whole video, drop a comment, or hit them with a like to show support!

3. Share, share, share!

For the most impact, spread the word! Tag a friend in the comments, share a post to your page or your stories, or include a link to their content in your newsletter or blog.

This way, not only are you helping more people see the content, you also position your page as connected to the community. 

At first you will have to seek out the businesses that you want to engage with, but after a few weeks their content will begin to appear regularly in your news feeds which will make it super simple to engage.
