Choosing the right type(s) of content for your business

Tell me that you don’t sit up in your chair when you come across an excellent piece of content as you click through Google’s pages and scroll through your social media feed. I know I do! 

We know that content creation is a marketing tactic with proven results. We also know that it’s a marketing tactic that business owners find incredibly fulfilling … if they pick the content that’s right for them. Every business owner wants to share their expertise with the world in hopes that they will reach the right people and turn them into loyal customers. Service-based or product-based, there’s a type of content out there that will connect with your audience and keep them coming back for more. 

So, how do you actually pick the right type(s) of content for your business? (And yes, there can be multiple). 

Set your goals

First, set a goal for yourself. What do you want to accomplish with your content? You can bring people to your website, increase your following on social media, generate leads or become known as an expert in your field. Your overall goal will outline the path you need to take to get there. 

Find your medium

Next you want to find a medium that you’re comfortable communicating on. Do you love to talk to people through audio or on video? Maybe connecting with others through writing is more your thing.

It’s easy to overthink this step and try to push yourself into a box that just doesn’t fit. Think about how you want your audience to see you. Authenticity is key here, as is trial and error. The most important thing is to get started on your content creation journey. You’ll definitely pivot and change your course as you move forward and learn more about what your audience wants, and what feels comfortable for you to create.

When it comes to content creation, it’s okay to start with no budget and grow based on your needs and goals. Remember, you’re going to pivot in this journey so don’t pull your hair out over your budget.
