How to Write Good Blog Content In 8 Minutes

Hey fellow blog writer!

Are you experiencing writer’s block? We understand you. Do you feel mentally drained but yet that cursor keeps blinking and the page is still blank? Been there! The blog writing process can feel like a marathon, and it becomes easy to put pressure on yourself to write good blog content each and every time.

We’re here to tell you that blog writing doesn’t have to be stressful. Blogs are an essential piece of a good digital marketing plan, and they can do amazing things for your business. They’re a source of content that can easily be shared via your email and social media. They help with SEO and your website ranking. And more importantly, they help establish you as an expert in your industry so you can build a community.

At Fesyk Marketing we have blog writing down to a science. We have a great team of collaborators who work together to make magic happen for our clients. But what if you don’t have the resources to pay someone to write your blogs? We hear you! And lucky for you, we’ve put together some tips to make blog writing easier so that you can do it on your own – efficiently.

Blog writing tips

Before we get into our favourite blog writing steps, we should preface that this isn’t a blog on how to start a blog. This is a blog on how to stop spending hours staring at a blank screen and write your blog content more efficiently.

How to Write a Blog In 8 Minutes

Step 1

Create a list of 5-10 topics or titles in advance. This list can include topics that are relevant to your industry or newsworthy to your business.

We love to make notes about potential blog topics whenever possible! In the middle of writing a different blog and an idea comes to mind? Take note! Grocery shopping and you thought of the perfect title? Take note!

Step 2

Call a friend and talk about your titles. This will help you gain some confidence that you know what you’re talking about. (We know you know what you’re talking about – but do you know you know what you’re talking about?)

Step 3

After your call, sit down and take a minute to write a bullet-point outline. Write down 1-5 bullet points of things you want to share.

Don’t over do it! If your bullet points turn into multiple sentences, stop and take a step back.

Step 4

Get out of your head. Stop the self-shaming about your perception of your writing. You have what it takes to create good content. We know it! We also know that writer’s block is a real thing. It can feel like climbing a mountain and never reaching the peak. It’s writing a sentence, deleting it, hating on yourself, and then trying again.

Ground yourself. Our team uses a variety of techniques including 5-minute meditation apps, yoga, stretches, and our all-time favourite … pouring another cup of coffee.

Step 5

Once you’ve done steps 1-5, you’re ready to write! This is where we propose aiming for 8 minutes. Take your bullet points and turn them into complete sentences or paragraphs. There is no one method or formula for this – write what feels right. And more importantly, write what you’d want to read.

When you’ve got content on the page, walk away.

Step 6

Proofread your content. By proofread we mean proofread – not edit

Step 7

Put the content on your website blog and hit publish! You can optimize the blog with images, keywords and formatting, but the act of publishing words on the page is the overall objective here.

Words of Wisdom

There are a few key things to remember when you’re in the midst of the blog writing process.

1. There are no rules in blog writing. Find what works for you and give it a go. Seth Godin writes a blog that sometimes consists of only one or two sentences. What’s important is that you are sharing your knowledge with others.

2.  We know it might be hard to get your blog writing down to 8 minutes. But if you practice these steps and learn when to step back, walk away and just write what you know, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you can produce blog content – good blog content we might add!

3. You know what you’re doing. You know your business better than anyone. And you know what your audience wants to read.

You’ve got this!
